Every frame of the trailer spells grandiose, and Nandamuri Balakrishna is so apt in his role as Gautamiputra Satakarni, that we wonder why no one thought of casting him in this character before.
What’s with Telugu cinema churning out epic movies every six months? Can they please teach Bollywood how to do this? Last year, we saw the gigantic Baahubali smashing all sort of box office records and be India’s biggest film when it comes to budget and scale. Then there was Anushka Shetty’s Rudramadevi, which was made on considerably less scale, managed to doing some decent business at the box office, even garnering award for Allu Arjun, who had a supporting role as warrior Gona Ganna Reddy. Now Nandamuri Balakrishna is also joining the bandwagon as he leashes his 100th film on a grand scale by adapting the life of ruler Gautamiputra Satakarni on screen. For those who do not know who this king is, he was the ruler of the Satavahana Empire in the 2nd century CE.
It has been surprise to many of Nandamuri Balakrishna‘s fans that he will take on such a historical subject to be made as his 100th film, as the man is known for his typical mass entertainers with over-the-top sequences. However the trailer that has landed for the movie has surprised the hell out of me, with its epic scale. Every frame of the trailer spells grandiose, and Nandamuri Balakrishna is so apt in his role as Gautamiputra Satakarni, that we wonder why no one thought of casting him in this character before. Special mention must also be given to the director ‘Anjana Puthra’ Krish who depicting those large scale war sequences and the majestic moments. It is also good to see Hema Malini on screen after a long time, who plays the king’s mother. Shriya Saran is the leading lady, playing Satkarni’s wife. We also got a glimpse of Kabir Bedi as well.
Here’s the trailer of the movie…
Gautamiputra Satakarni is scheduled to release on January 12, 2017.
